Tay Thien is about 10 km far from Tam Dao Resort. It is an ancient architectural complex amidst natural scenery of Tam Dao mountains and forests.
Tay Thien means “western sky” of the former Nam Viet capital. It is dedicated to Quoc Mau Nang Thi Tieu, one of the generals under the dynasty of Hung Emperor. Legend has it that a Mountain Deity (Son nu) led a troop of 300 soldiers from Tam Dao to the Hac Tu junction to fight with aggressors from the north, saving the capital of Van Lang Kingdom. After the victory, she denied all royal tittles and returned to the holly mountainous area of Tay Thien to live.
The Tay Thien complex was built during the Ly and Tran dynasties and then the Le dynasty. The incense stick that was carved out of blue stone commemorates the restoration of temple in 1720. The Tay Son dynasty also left Tay Thien a bronze plaque (1.04m high and 1.06m wide) in 1794. About 50 meters from the Tay Thien Pagoda is Sach Hoa Cave with many stalactites.
The Tay Thien complex includes Thac Bac (silver) Waterfall, Giai Oan (vindication) Creek, Bat Nha Stream, Truong Sinh (longevity) Creek, Dam Sen (lotus pond), Dua Pond, Rung Rinh Mountain. On the side of the mountain is Tay Thien Pagoda with green bamboo and pine trees. On the top of the mountain is Dong Co Pagoda. You can spend one day to visit the pagoda. From the left of Giai Oan Creek to Lotus Pond, the water seems to get the greenery scene of the forests and the rocks, as well as the leaves and flowers of the lotus blossoming all the year round. The stream from the stone pagoda is called the Hac stream and the one from the right is called the Golden stream.
Visiting Tay Thien, travelers can admire majestic landscape granted by the nature and made by human beings.
