(TITC)-On October 8, Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Ha Van Sieu had a meeting with EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), led by Vice Chairman Guy Apovy.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Guy Apovy informed that ASEAN is a dynamic region in recent years. According to survey result of Council’s members, 88% belived that the trade and investment of ASEAN will continue to grow in the next 5 years, 50% belived that ASEAN will be a priority region in the eyes of international investors. Affirming that Viet Nam is an active and dynamic member in ASEAN, he hoped to enhance the connection of businesses of the two sides in order to push economic development. In particular, he would like to learn about Strategy of Vienam tourism development and Project of information technology application in tourism.
Welcoming the EU-ABC to Viet Nam, Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu highly appreciated the council’s interesting in ASEAN region in general and also in Viet Nam. In recent years, Vietnam tourism continued its rapid growth. Viet Nam welcomed 15.5 million international arrivals in 2018 (up 19.9 % over 2017) and nearly 13 milion arrivals in nine months of 2019 (up 10.8% over the same period of 2018). Viet Nam is an attractive tourism destination for tourists and investors. Vietnamese government indentifies the important role of private sector in tourism development, infrastructure and accommodation investment.
The strategy of Viet Nam tourism development to 2030, vision to 2050, which is being built, sets new development goals for tourism sector in new age, taking into account of international integration and climate change adaptation. Comprehensive and breakthrough solutions will be focused so as to utilize Viet Nam’s comparative advantages, diversify products, improve service quality, attract international visitors, foster tourism business activities, and increase contribution of tourism to socio- economic development.
Project of information technology application in tourism period 2018-2020, direction to 2025 was approved by the Prime Minister in November 2018. The project highlights the importance of information technology being a breakthrough tool for supporting visitors, improving competitiveness of Vietnam tourism. Main missions and solutions involve digital technology application supporting tourists, development of smart destinations, overall information system of tourism sector, startups in information technology application for tourism, training and awareness enhancement of information technology application in tourism sector.
Viet Nam welcomes European member businesses of the EU-ABC to suport, consult, invest and cooperate to promote sustainable tourism development.
The EU-ASEAN Business Council will continue to organize workshops with the participation of experts and working groups aiming to foster cooperation between Viet Nam and EU, said Mr. Guy Apovy.
